Diane Poole Heller, Ph.D. Beyond Personal History: From Woundedness
to Wisdom Weekend Training
ITo drop illusion means to have far seeing-seeing into another
world- and it is the gift worth waiting for. Clarissa Pinkola Estes
The Human journey lived openly and fully takes great courage and
demonstrates the triumph of the human spirit. This weekend, we will
be exploring the continuum that synthesizes trauma healing, traditional
psychotherapy, and spiritual development. We will delineate the goals,
benefits, and limitations of each modality and demonstrate how the
three can be integrated into a comprehensive, dynamic approach.
Psychology has a predominant emphasis on building
and strengthening a healthy ego. The focus of many spiritual schools
is the dismantling of ego structure to access more expansive states.
Trauma often opens the survivor to expansive states that are mixed
with fear and terror. Body-centered techniques, such as Somatic
Experiencing® integrate
the overcharged, fractured traumatized self and help a person embody
the transcendent experience.
Many of us have years of exploration and healing behind us. Having
moved from trauma toward transformation, we are more skilled at developing
a practical relationship to suffering. We know that suffering, when
integrated and metabolized, serves as nourishment toward becoming
a freer, more mature human being. As we clear fear from the body
and dissolve old ego identification from the mind, we experience
our core intactness and authentic Self.
- In this workshop, we will look at questions like:
- When not encapsulated in our personal history, who am I?
- What do I envision and experience as I actualize a more healed
life?
- What is the core belief of my life seemed to be organized around?
- How can I help myself and others uncover the hidden treasure
in trauma?
- Hallmarks of the healed life include:
- A capacity to enjoy vs. endure.
- Resiliency bonding instead of trauma bonding.
- Our judging critical mind relaxes into spacious awareness and
acceptance of what is.
- Becoming more comfortable with change and the nature of impermanence.
- Loving yourself enough to create a rich and beautiful life.
